Houzz Pro Alternative

Houzz Pro is a marketing platform that added project management. Phixmo is a project management platform that protects your margin.

Houzz Pro does a lot of things. 3D floor plans, mood boards, lead generation from the Houzz marketplace, email marketing, custom websites. It's impressive. But if you're a residential GC who needs to track costs, manage crews, send contracts, and know exactly where your margin went on every job, the PM tools are an add-on to a marketing platform, not the main event.

Phixmo is built from the ground up for the operations side of running a residential construction company. The part where you actually make or lose money.

Why do GCs look for Houzz Pro alternatives?

GCs leave Houzz Pro mainly because they are paying for marketing and design tools they do not use, lead generation that varies by market, and PM features that were added on top of a design platform instead of built for operations.

The Pro plan is expensive for what you use.

Houzz Pro's full-featured Pro plan runs $399/month. A lot of that cost is paying for marketing tools, 3D design features, and access to the Houzz lead marketplace. If you're a GC who gets work through referrals, Facebook groups, and your own network, you're paying for lead generation tools you don't need.

Lead generation varies wildly by market.

The Houzz marketplace drives real leads in major metro areas with high design-conscious homeowner traffic. But if you're in a smaller market or a market where homeowners find contractors through word-of-mouth rather than browsing design portfolios, the lead generation piece may not deliver value. You're still paying for it either way.

The project management tools are secondary.

Houzz Pro started as a design and marketing platform and added PM features over time. The estimating, scheduling, and invoicing tools work, but they weren't the foundation of the product. For a GC whose primary concern is job costing and margin protection, the PM tools can feel lightweight compared to platforms built for that purpose.

Design tools aren't useful for every GC.

3D floor plans, mood boards, and visual presentations are powerful for design-build firms and interior designers. But if you're framing an addition, building an ADU, or doing a structural remodel, mood boards aren't part of your workflow. You need takeoffs, cost tracking, and change order management.

What makes Phixmo different from Houzz Pro?

Phixmo focuses on the operations side: AI takeoffs, real-time job costing, free field workers, and a change order workflow that protects your margin. Houzz Pro adds marketing and design on top.

AI blueprint takeoffs.

Upload a blueprint PDF, calibrate the scale with two clicks on a known dimension, and AI extracts the measurements: room dimensions, wall lengths, doors, windows, square footage, fixtures. Every measurement shows how it was derived, and you review and adjust before generating a full cost estimate.

Houzz Pro has a takeoff tool, but it's manual measurement. In Phixmo you don't trace walls and count doors. The AI does the first pass in under a minute.

Your field workers are free.

Phixmo charges for managers, PMs, and supervisors. Your field crew clocks in with GPS verification, submits receipts, and logs daily photos without adding to your bill. A crew of 3 managers and 15 field workers costs the same as 3 managers and 2 field workers.

Real-time job costing.

Track every dollar by category as the job runs. Labor, materials, subs, equipment. Compare estimated vs actual costs weekly, not after the job is done. Ask questions in plain English like 'how much have we spent on labor for the kitchen remodel?' and get an answer from your actual data.

Full contract and change order workflow.

Generate contracts from estimates, send for e-signature, customer signs from email. Change orders go through a real approval workflow where the customer approves or requests changes before you can invoice. Everything is branded with your company logo.

Customer portal.

Your homeowner sees project progress, milestones, signed documents, invoices, and pending change orders. They approve change orders and message you directly through the portal.

Verified customer reviews.

When a project completes, homeowners are automatically prompted for a star rating, written review, and photos. Every review is tied to a real completed project in your system. These verified reviews will feed into a lead generation feature down the road, built on trust instead of paid placements.

Where does Houzz Pro still win?

Houzz Pro built a strong design and marketing platform. If your business runs on those pieces, this is honest about where it still leads.

Design and presentation tools.

If you're a design-build firm that presents 3D walkthroughs and mood boards to clients as part of your sales process, Houzz Pro's visual tools are genuinely excellent. Phixmo doesn't have 3D design tools and isn't planning to build them. This is a different product for a different workflow.

Lead generation in major markets.

The Houzz marketplace has over 70 million homeowners browsing for inspiration and finding contractors. In high-traffic metros like LA, NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco, that marketplace drives real leads. Phixmo is building a verified review-based lead system, but it's not live yet. If Houzz leads are your primary acquisition channel, that's real value.

Marketing suite.

Custom websites, email campaigns, and portfolio pages are all built in. If you want one platform for both marketing and project management and the design tools fit your workflow, Houzz Pro bundles that well.

Selections management.

Helping homeowners choose finishes, fixtures, and materials through a visual interface is a strong Houzz Pro feature for design-heavy projects. Phixmo doesn't have a selections tool today.

Where does Phixmo win over Houzz Pro?

Five places the operations workflow and the math favor Phixmo when the goal is protecting margin on residential jobs.

Job costing and margin protection.

This is the core difference. Phixmo was built by an accountant who did the books for residential GCs. Every feature is designed around tracking costs against the budget in real time. Budget alerts, NL query, category-level cost tracking. If your primary concern is knowing where your money is going and keeping more of it, Phixmo goes deeper than Houzz Pro's budgeting tools.

AI takeoffs.

Both platforms have takeoff capability. In Phixmo the AI reads the blueprint against a scale you calibrate in 2 clicks and extracts measurements automatically, each badged with how it was derived. You review and adjust instead of manually tracing walls and counting doors. That's a fundamentally different workflow that saves hours.

Price.

Phixmo Pro at $169/month versus Houzz Pro at $399/month. If you're not using the marketing tools, the 3D design features, or the Houzz lead marketplace, you're paying $230/month extra for features that don't fit your workflow.

Free field workers.

Your crew size doesn't affect your bill. Period.

Change order approval workflow.

Phixmo's change order system sends to the customer for approval (via portal or email), requires sign-off before invoicing, and maintains a complete audit trail. This prevents the most common margin leak in residential construction: work done without documentation.

How much does Phixmo cost compared to Houzz Pro?

Phixmo Pro is $169/month with 5 office seats and unlimited free field worker seats. Houzz Pro is $399/month and bundles design and marketing tools on top of the PM features.

Phixmo Pro is $169/month. All operations features included.

Houzz Pro at $399/month includes everything: PM tools plus design tools plus marketing tools. But if you only need the PM tools, you're paying for the full bundle.

Annual cost, residential GC

Houzz Pro

$4,788/yr

$399/mo flat

Phixmo Pro + unlimited free field workers

$2,028/yr

$169/mo flat

That's $2,760 per year back in your pocket. Plus AI takeoffs and real-time job costing that Houzz Pro doesn't match.

Common questions

Is Phixmo a replacement for Houzz Pro?

It depends on what you use Houzz Pro for. If you rely on the Houzz marketplace for leads and use the 3D design tools in your sales process, Phixmo doesn't replace those features. But if you're primarily using Houzz Pro for project management, estimating, invoicing, and client communication, Phixmo does all of that at a lower price with deeper job costing and AI takeoffs.

Can I use both?

Yes. Some contractors use Houzz Pro for marketing and lead generation while using a separate platform for operations. Phixmo handles the operations side: estimates, contracts, job costing, time tracking, invoicing, and change orders.

What about leads?

Phixmo is building a lead generation feature based on verified customer reviews tied to real completed projects. It's a different model from the Houzz marketplace. Instead of paying for access to browsing homeowners, your verified project reviews and photos attract homeowners who are looking for proven contractors. This feature is on the roadmap and not live yet.
